FTC Extends Enforcement Deadline for "Red Flags" Rule through December 31, 2010

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has extended the enforcement deadline for its “Red Flags” Rule through December 31, 2010. The action came at the request of several Members of Congress, which is considering legislation that would affect the scope of entities affected by the rule. The rule, which is designed to reduce identity theft, went into effect on January 1, 2008, with enforcement to begin on November 1, 2008. The FTC has issued a series of extensions to the enforcement deadline since that time.
