Victoria resident Mark B. Schulte met with residents, staff, and supporters at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center in Ellis, on May 28, 2010 at 12:00pm, to announce his candidacy for Kansas House District 110. Schulte is running following the announcement from Representative Dan Johnson that he would not seek reelection.

If elected, Schulte seeks to find sensible solutions to close the expected deficit in the state’s budget that will not eliminate much-needed services for Kansas’ most vulnerable citizens and will not compromise the quality of the states educational system.

"In the coming year, Kansans will face very difficult challenges," said Schulte. "Kansans will likely begin the year facing a budget deficit. At the same time, many cities are struggling with unprecedented unemployment. Our rural communities are aging while our tax base is shrinking. These problems will be compounded when the state begins to tackle health care reforms that will be mandated by the Federal government. We need leadership in Topeka that understands rural Kansas, how to live within a budget, and how to protect our most vulnerable citizens while protecting the assets of hard working Kansans.”

Schulte is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator for the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. Currently, he is the administrator of Good Samaritan Society campus in Ellis which provides skilled nursing care and assisted living services. Schulte is also the administrator of the Good Samaritan Society – Home Health of Central Kansas which provides services and home health care to patients in ten Kansas counties. Additionally, Schulte is a volunteer member of the Ellis County Rural Fire Department and the City of Victoria Volunteer Fire Department. Prior to working with the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, Schulte worked in the human service field and for the state of Kansas providing support to children and adults with physical, mental and developmental disabilities. For more than 10 years he has consulted with medical and human service organizations throughout United States and Canada to assist organizations in developing best practices and assure the highest standards of care through an international accreditation process.

Schulte attended Fort Hays State University and Marymount College of Salina and holds a BS degree in Business Administration. He is an active member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria and has served as a Church Council member. Schulte is also a member of the Ellis Rotary club where he holds the position of President Elect.

Schulte is married to Kris Schulte, who is a Mental Health Consultant for Head Start and USD 489 in Hays. Together they have three sons ages nine, six, and three months. The Schulte family lives east of Victoria on land that was homesteaded by Schulte’s great grandfather. Together the family raises Scottish Highland Cattle on their farm there.
