FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aging Services Technology Expo To Be Held Today TOPEKA – An aging services technology expo will be held today, January 21, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Docking State Office Building highlighting the latest technologies available to support seniors. It is being hosted jointly by the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, the House Aging Long-Term Care Committee and the House Vision 2020 Committee. The event will feature the latest in medication management systems, telemonitoring, telehealth, social networking options and more. It is designed to give legislators, state agency officials and other aging services stakeholders a chance to learn about what is available and how the technologies are currently being used. As the population ages and the need for health care services and supports continues to grow, applied technology will serve an increasingly important role in extending the work of formal and informal caregivers and in contributing to the quality of life of older Kansans. Founded in 1954, the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (KAHSA) represents not-for-profit (NFP) long-term care provider organizations throughout Kansas. Our 160 members exist solely to serve the unmet needs of elders. They share a common benevolent purpose and are committed to a ministry of service, care, and community benefit. KAHSA members serve nearly 20,000 Kansas seniors in nursing homes, retirement communities, hospital long-term care units, assisted living residences, senior housing and through community-based services. Our mission is to assist our members to provide services and supports to aging Kansans in the place they call home. -30- |
